Essay 1

Friendship does not last forever

"My friends are loyal, but they bore me and have no ambition

Some people think that friendship is a relationship forever, but other people consider that friendship will end in a few years.

I have read an article from the Guardian where a writer shares his feelings. He is concerned about his friends; the reason is that he has lost connection with them. Our lives are constantly changing, for example, you have changed interests, values, projects, ideas, or ideals. The author of a letter feels uncomfortable and finds "meeting up with them like a chore".

Firstly, I'd like to say a few words about me, I'm in the same boat with the author of the letter, that's why I've chosen this article for discussion. After my first year of study, I came to my hometown and met my school friends. I fairly may say that it's difficult and uncomfortable for me to communicate with them because, as in the author's case, my friends "hadn’t developed personally and intellectually over time". I was really disappointed with this. And I completely agree with Mariella Frostrup, who gives pieces of advice to the writer. She writes that "Friends are a choice and not a life sentence..." I think it's important to be on the same page and get on with your mates.

Secondly, I'd like to recommend the writer to visit places of her interests to find soulmates, for example, some courses, theatres,
and museums.

Thirdly, now it's the 21nd century so it's easy to find new friends via the Internet. There're so many social networks for communication, for instance,  VK, Odnoklassniki, Tinder, Instagram and so on.

To sum it up, friendship doesn't last forever. If I were the writer, I would change my social circle, as I have already done. I gave the writer a piece of advice on how to do it. It's essential to mention that friendship is part of our growth; people give us life experience even if they leave your life. And it's better to find new ones, despite the proverb "One old friend is worth two new ones", to achieve goals, learn about the world and develop themselves together.

Post 6: Interesting topics to write about

I'd like to share the topics than are interesting for me to discuss.

The first one is Do young people have body image problems? I think that such a topic is pretty actual nowadays because a lot of young men feel embarassed about their body and have stereotypes.

The second topic is Movies today are worse than they were in our parent's generation.
I guess that earlier films were kinder and not so violent as the modern ones.

The third topic is What is the perfect diet for health? Actually, I'm on a helthy diet, that's why I'd like to share pieces of advice with my readers.

Hope it's interesting for you too! : )

Post-5: Your favourite learning English resource

I'd like to present you my favoutite resourse for learning languages. It names Quizlet. Its link is https://quizlet.com/latest . This app helps you to learn new words fast and efficiently. You create cards with the words you need and, also, may add pictures and voice records to cards.. Also it's possible to learn new words via games. There're two different games that you may try. I like it a lot. By the way, you may have a test there. It's a great benefit becauseyou may give it a try. I always use Quizlet for preparing for my German and English classes.
I highly recommend this resource to all my groupmates. ♥

'The climate doesn't need awards': Greta Thunberg declines environmental prize.

Greta Tunberg is a Swedish climate activist, 16 years old, who rose to prominence after she started spending her Fridays outside Sweden’s parliament in August 2018, holding a sign reading “School strike for climate”.

Greta Thunberg has refused to accept an environmental award, saying the climate movement needed people in power to start to “listen” to “science” and not awards.

She was honoured at a Stockholm ceremony held by the Nordic Council. She'd been nominated for her efforts by both Sweden and Norway and won the organisation’s annual environment prize. But after it was announced, a representative for Thunberg told the audience that she would not accept the award or the prize.

“The climate movement does not need any more awards. What we need is for our politicians and the people in power start to listen to the current, best available science.” she wrote on Instagram.

While thanking the Nordic Council for the “huge honour”, she also criticised Nordic countries for not living up to their “great reputation” on climate issues.

“There is no lack of bragging about this. There is no lack of beautiful words. But when it comes to our actual emissions and our ecological footprints per capita … then it’s a whole other story,” Thunberg said.

Questions: 1. Would you accept an award if you were her?
                  2. Have you watched her speech?
                  3. Do you share her opinion?

Greta Thunberg, teen climate activist, was honoured by the Nordic Council with an environmental award which she declined.

Post-2:Your introductions

Hi! My name is Dasha. My group number is 18821.
I'm 19 years old and I come from Ulan-Ude.
And why do I assosiate this photo with me? So I believe that every person is unique. Not only because we all have different DNA codes or fingerprints, but we have our own individualities. By the way, we all have inner strength and power to do great deals. We all have our habits and particular features of character that no one may have.

Sometimes we may consider people are strange for their pecularities but we can't judge them. It's their choice to wear bright clothes or listen to unusual music. This way they may be want to pay attention to themselves or it's just the way of selfexpression. To my mind, the most important thing is to be in harmony with yourself. 😌
